Brandon Lynn McDowell, 45, of Amarillo, TX died Thursday, June 13, 2024.
Private graveside services were held on Monday, June 17, 2024. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Brandon was born in Amarillo, TX on August 15, 1978 to Darrell and Cynthia McDowell. Brandon was an outgoing, very creative child. You never knew what he was going to create or what character he was going to be dressed as when he came out of his room. He went to Tascosa High School where he was on the wrestling team under Coach Johnny Cobb and graduated in 1997. Brandon received a wrestling scholarship to Adams State College in Alamoso, CO. He moved to San Marcos, TX and went to Texas State College graduating in 2002 with a BA in Kinesiology.
In 1999, he began a career in mixed martial arts that spanned almost a decade with over 100 professional fights across multiple countries and continents including Australia and Brazil where he trained with the Gracie Family.
He was a fighter in every sense of the word. He relied on his Christian faith to give him strength through the good times and the bad. Before every fight, he would always kneel on the mat and pray. Brandon’s favorite verse was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, R.V. and Marie McDowell, and William E. and Zena Mae Haynes.
Brandon is survived by his parents, Darrell and Cynthia McDowell of Amarillo, TX; brother, Brian McDowell and wife Shalon McDowell of Winchester, CA; nieces, Payton and Jordyn McDowell; and his faithful companion, Wickett.
