Bobby Eugene Copheranham, 86, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2800 Par
amount Blvd., Amarillo, Texas. Pastor Greg Corona will officiate.
Bob was born January 28, 1936, in Kaufman County, TX, to Harold Cockerham and Jewell “Irene” Youngblood. Coming from very meager means, he set out, alone, for Tulia, TX at the age of 15 with a suitcase containing the entirety of his worldly possessions and $5 in his pocket. Upon arriving in Tulia, he was welcomed into a 2-room house by his Uncle Mac, Aunt Lottie, and
12 cousins. Bob was a member of Tulia High School’s class of 1954, although he postponed graduating until 1955 so that he could set out on a wheat harvest across the plains.
Due to his difficult upbringing, Bob would
tell you that his goals in life were to have an actual family and to get out of poverty. He met Irelene Ferguson in 1954, and they were wed 4 years later, on June 27. Together, over the span of 63 years, they made these goals a reality. They were a true partnership during the course of his career, which consisted of multiple entrepreneurial ventures. Thanks to Bob’s vision and unbelievable work ethic, he was able to give his future generations a start in life that he could only dream of as a kid.
In his later years, Bobby enjoyed train trips across the country, road trips to casinos, and spending time with his many grandkids. For the past ten years, it wasn’t uncommon to see his vehicle parked at McDonald’s, in the morning, where he would grab a cup of their cheapest coffee and visit with a group of guys that he affectionately referred to as “The Old Geezers.” He was always intentional with whomever he was talking to; always curious about what was happening in their world, more so than sharing what was happening in his. His booming laugh was infectious and would, at the very least, put a smile on every face in the room.
Bobby left this world better than he found it. Many people, from different walks of life, are better off having known him. And while his passing leaves a hole in the lives of those who loved him, there is hope that he knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his adoring wife Irelene, of the home; daughter Cindy Allison, of Amarillo; son Ken Copheranham and wife Kaki, of Amarillo; daughter Lisa Mills and husband Gregg, of Amarillo; grandson Jarrett Copheranham and wife Crista, of Amarillo; granddaughter Jessica Stallwitz and husband Ben, of Amarillo; granddaughter Chelsea Warnock and husband Trey, of Amarillo; grandson Joshua Allison and wife Cami, of Ashville, NC; granddaughter Ashley Cornelius and husband Hayden; of Amarillo; grandson Matthew Mills and wife Kristen of Amarillo; and 13 great-grandchildren
, with one more on the way.
