Bob was born in Amarillo, Texas on October 12, 1935, to Jess and Elizabeth Sanders.

He graduated from Amarillo High in 1953 where he excelled on the golf team. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1957 where he again excelled on their golf team. He graduated from SMU Law School in 1960 and married the love of his life, Bonnie Hier, on February 12, 1960. He practiced law with Miller, Sanders, and Baker, and later with Art Baker.

The passions of his life were God, family, and children. He loved God and greatly valued teaching an adult Sunday School class for many years at First Presbyterian Church. He helped to start the Amarillo Prayer Breakfast with Bill Landess in 1990. He also helped bring Franklin Graham to Amarillo for a Crusade in 2000. He loved his family, children, and being involved in Kid's Inc. Sports, Maverick Club, the AISD School Board, and Young Life. He also loved the University of Texas sports teams.

He loved golf and played every weekend until his health no longer allowed him to play so frequently.

Bob’s son, Mike, cared for both he and Bonnie during his latter years. The family would like to thank Lanny Archie Shrubs who diligently and with much love cared for Bob during his last 3 years.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betsy Clark; and brother, Jim Sanders.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sanders; four sons, Mike Sanders, Pat Sanders and his wife Cherie, Bobby Sanders and Debbie Hoving, and Jeremy Sanders and his wife Margaret; ten grandchildren, Danielle Sanders, Ella West and husband John, Ann Young and husband Bryce, Miles Sanders, Trey Sanders, Aidan Sanders, Brittany Sanders, Blake Sanders, Joanie Sanders, and Mary Sanders; and a new great-grandchild, Gunner West.
