Billy Dean Flowers, 82, of Bushland, TX died on August 21, 2022, at home.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 25, 2022, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Casey Wetsel officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, TX.
Bill was born on April 21, 1940, in Lubbock, TX to WH and Lozeeda Deaton Flowers.
Bill graduated high school in Texline, TX in 1959 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University.
Bill played college basketball at Amarillo College and in York Nebraska before attending ENMU.
Bill married Marilyn Joan Potts on December 24, 1961, in Farwell, TX.
Bill was a teacher and coach in Amistad, NM where he and Jerry Koehn lead the 1974 girls’ basketball team to their first and only state championship. Once Amistad closed their doors, Bill moved to San Jon, NM and became a superintendent and coach for the next 4 years. Then onto Logan NM where he spent the next 5 years as a superintendent and coach. He finished his education career in NM at Portales where he was the assistant principal for many years. Once he moved to Texas, Bill became a director for Boys Ranch and then went on to be the director of Richards Milburn Academy for 5 years.
Bill enjoyed team roping with many of his dear friends and sons. He loved golfing, drawing, watching his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with his family telling jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leslie and Hez Flowers.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marilyn Joan Flowers, of Bushland, TX; daughter, Shonda Usrey married to Clint Usrey, of Bushland, TX; son, Clay Flowers, of Artesia, NM; son, Brad Flowers married to Sammie Flowers, of Bushland, TX; 7 grandchildren, Ty Swinney married to Brooks Swinney, of Amarillo, TX, Ashley Ledford married to James Ledford, of Amarillo, TX, Katlyn Butler married to Will Butler, of Stinnett, TX, Kade and Cash Flowers, of Bushland, TX, and Hagen and Cooper Flowers, of Ardmore, OK; 5 great-grandchildren, Rowdy and Hadley Bebout, Tash Williams, and Wyld and Benny Butler.
Bill’s ashes will later be scattered over the place he loved most the O’Neil Ranch at Clapham, NM where he worked in the summers for Harold O’Neil and where his parents resided for many years.
Honorary Pallbearers are Ty Swinney, Kade Flowers, Cash Flowers, and Cooper Flowers.
