Billie Jewel (Kinks) Garrett, age 97, passed away peacefully at the Ware Living Center in Amarillo, Texas, on March 2, 2025.
Kinks was born in Nara Visa, New Mexico, on September 7, 1927, to Emma and William T. Garrett. Her mother and father traveled from Dumont, Texas, to New Mexico in a covered wagon. They actually made the whole trip without a GPS! She attended school in Nara Visa until the second grade when the Garretts moved to San Jon, New Mexico. Kinks graduated from San Jon High School in 1945.
She started her professional career at the Electric Company in Clovis, New Mexico. She had the opportunity to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to work at Sandia National Laboratories. Kinks was the Employee Supervisor there. After several years at Sandia, she retired and moved to Amarillo, Texas, to be closer to family.
Kinks was an avid Bridge player, she enjoyed dancing, she loved to travel, and she was a talented China painter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Sybil Moore (Clyde) and Bernice Cosner (Brent); her brother, Jack Garrett (Selma). She’s survived by many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services celebrating the life of Billie Jewel Garrett will be conducted at the San Jon Cemetery, San Jon, New Mexico on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 2:30 pm MST.
