Betty Jo Adams

Betty Jo Adams, 93, of Amarillo, died on Monday,

November

7, 2022. She was born on July 13, 1929, in Leonard, Texas Betty graduated high school and went on to Business College. She married Charles Marion Pinkston on March 13, 1948, in Sherman, Texas. In 1950, the couple moved to Amarillo, Texas where Betty went to work for Southwestern Public Service Company in the Billing Department until she retired in 1991.

Betty was a long-time, very active member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. She sang in the choir for several years and volunteered for many events such as delivering Poinsettias at Christmas time to senior members and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was also an avid gardener. She loved working outside and she always grew enough to share with the food bank and various missions. She was most proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her life.

While she was married to Charles, they were members of the Kiva Shrine Temple. Betty was a member of the Daughters of the Nile in the Shrine. When she lost Charles Pinkston in 1995 to ALS, she purchased an RV and traveled with clubs and on her own. She really loved traveling and seeing the country. She met her second husband, Douglas Adams through one of the RV clubs. They enjoyed traveling together so decided to marry on May 30, 1998.

Unfortunately, Douglas passed away in 2012. Betty decided to continue traveling for as long as she could.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Debbie Bernson, grandson Charles Bernson, grandson Chancy Benson and his wife Heather, great-grandchildren Hunter and Jaecie Mitchell, grandson Chris Benson and his wife Melissa, great-grandchildren Mason Bernson, Aubree Bernson, Meagan Martinez, and Ian Martinez, sister-in-law Mary Jo Rhodes from Dallas, sister-in-law Sue Blanton from Austin, along with several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Loren Blanton, mother Gertrude Weatherman, brother Thomas Blanton, husbands Charles Pinkston and Douglas Adams.

Graveside services will be held at 1 pm., Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Llano Cemetery with Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Officiating the service will be Corky Holland, Minister of Pastoral Care for Senior Adults at First Baptist Church.

All friends and loved ones are welcome at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for viewing. The family will be there from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday to receive friends. After the funeral, the family will be at 4221 Emil Ave, Amarillo, Texas.
