Berry Ford Smith, 90, of Amarillo, TX died Saturday, May 25, 2024.
Berry Ford was born on January 27, 1934, in Merkel, TX to Ida May and Samuel Ford Smith, Jr. He attended Amarillo High School, class of 1953, and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Berry Ford married Myrna Loy Clark on August 12, 1953, in Albuquerque, NM.
He started throwing newspapers at a very early age, was a mechanic at Bob Fuller Motor Co, and went on to work at Royal Crown Cola, all while attending high school. Berry Ford went on to join the US Air Force in April 1954 where he served 4 years and 4 months in the Air Force and enjoyed being part of the elite Strategic Air Command. After his time in the military, he went on to establish Berry’s Texaco Service Station in Amarillo, TX. Berry then received the opportunity to begin a career with Seymour Bearing Company, then later became regional Vice President of Coastal Plains. In 1985, Berry Ford and his son Berry Doyle Smith established the family business, Texas Bearing Company, Inc, where he worked through his retirement in August 2014.
Berry Ford enjoyed a life full of traveling, camping, fishing, and had a great enthusiasm for old cars and Cushman motorcycles. Above all, Berry had a great love for his wife Myrna Loy, his children, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a son, Berry Doyle Smith and wife Joyce, of Amarillo, TX; a daughter, Michelle Kay McDaniel and husband Gary, of Amarillo, TX; a sister, Ann Doan, of Merkel, TX; a brother, Gary Smith; grandchildren, Anthony Smith and wife Stephanie, Adam Smith and wife Nicki, Jeannie George and husband Hunter, Katherine Quinlin and husband Tim, and Alyssa McDaniel; ten great-grandchildren, Avery, Emersyn, Kylee, Brooklynn, Macee, Payton, Gavin, Katie, William, and Grant; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Bill Huff; and two nephews, Jason and Jonathan Huff.
Family visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. – 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 30, 2024, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
