Barbara Lee Powell

Barbara Lee Powell, 81, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on April 13, 2025.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm Friday April 18, 2025 at Beacon Baptist Church, 417 S McMasters St., Amarillo, TX 79106. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. 

Barbara was born in San Antonio, TX on September 12, 1943, to Beulah Lee (Cook) and Elmer Warren Littleton. She graduated from Devine High School in 1961.

She met the love of her life, devoted husband and companion of over 63 years at Alto Frio Baptist Encampment in Leaky, TX the summer of 1960. She married Calvin Franklin Powell (from La Pryor, TX) on December 22, 1961

Calvin and Barbara continued to serve the Lord through the many phases of their lives. Assisting, leading, teaching or cooking in 1000’s of camps, 5-day clubs, after school programs, and church ministries across North America, Germany, and Ukraine.

After raising 5 kids and fostering 100s of children in their home, Barbara went back to school and earned her teaching degree. She began her teaching career with 6th grade in Donna, TX in 1997. Plagued with heart disease, she was forced to retire from teaching pre-K ESL at Eastridge Elementary in Amarillo, TX in 2005. Not one to slow down, she continued to support Calvin in church ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents Beulah and Elmer Littleton.

She is survived by her five children Warren, Carl, David, Daniel, Monica, and their spouses. Eight grandchildren Paloma, Mathew, Benjamin, Calvin, Johanna, Persephone, Andrew, and Brynn. Four great-grandchildren Ronan, Avienda, Eliza, and Tegan.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations towards the following: American Heart Association, Beacon Baptist Church, or Gideons.
