Arthur Ray Tupin

Arthur Ray Tupin, 81, of Amarillo, TX died Wednesday, April 5, 2023.

Visitation will be from 6-7:00 P.M., Monday, April 10, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Murray Gossett, First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery.  Military Rites will be provided by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Arthur was born December 15, 1941, in Amarillo, TX to Louis and Bettie (Elkins) Tupin Jr.  He was a member of the 1960 graduating class of Palo Duro High School.  Arthur married Charla Wells in May 1960.

Arthur had a law enforcement career spanning thirty-five years.  He worked for both the Amarillo Police Department and Potter County Sheriff’s Office, as well as criminal investigator for Potter County Attorney’s Office.  Arthur held an instructor’s certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.   In 1993, he was a member of the 174

th

Session of the FBI National Academy.   He held every rank for the Potter County Sheriff’s Office, eventually achieving the rank of Chief Deputy which he retired in 2000.  He was twice awarded Officer of the Year from Amarillo Optimist Club for service to the community.

In his spare time, Arthur enjoyed working beautiful jigsaw puzzles and reading, especially books on history.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Bettie Tupin; his son, Arthur Ray Tupin, Jr.; and brother, Randy Tupin.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Charla Tupin, of Amarillo, TX; a son, Scott Tupin and his fiancée, Lynette Wheat Perry, of Amarillo, TX; granddaughter, Abby Shelton, of Denton, TX; granddaughter, Cassie and husband Brooks Vanlandingham, of Trophy Club, TX; granddaughter, Lacy and husband John Conness, of Amarillo, TX; granddaughter, Chloe and husband Cody Galbreath, of Haslet, TX; granddaughter, Bailey Tupin, of Garland, TX; great-grandchildren, Charley Grace Shelton, of Denton, TX, Barron and Calvin Vanlandingham, of Trophy Club, TX, Kenzlee, Kennedy, Hayden, Bentlee, and Bailor Conness, of Amarillo, TX,  Gage and Sadie Galbreath, of Haslet, TX; and numerous other family members and friends.
