Arthur Jefferson Lamb, Jr.

Arthur Jefferson Lamb Jr., 93, died peacefully in Amarillo, TX.

Arthur was born in Amarillo on November 18, 1929, and was the only child of his parents, Mildred “Peggy” Rambo Lamb and Arthur Jefferson Lamb Sr.

Like most young boys growing up in West Texas, Arthur loved watching his beloved Sandies play under the glow of the Friday Night Lights every week. When he was 17 years old, he joined them on the field a

s a fullback.

Following his graduation from Amarillo High School in 1948, Arthur enlisted to serve in the United States Air Force. This decision was emblematic of Arthur’s firm belief in duty and his life-long love of country. After serving in the Air Force, Arthur attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. In 1957, he graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law. While Arthur still kept up with the Sandies on Friday nights, his full attention on Saturdays was reserved for the Longhorns. Arthur was at UT when the hand signal for “Hook ‘Em Horns” was developed by the student body, and he worked diligently to perfect his own version for the next nearly 70 years.

After passing the Texas bar, Arthur practiced law in Amarillo for almost 30 years. Arthur dedicated himself to his profession. He secured double Board Certifications in Estate Planning/Probate and Family Law, and he was an active member of the Amarillo Bar Association, including serving as its President. Arthur believed fully in the rule of law, and he worked for decades to uphold it to the best of his ability for his clients.

If Friday night was for the Sandies, and Saturday was for the Longhorns, Sunday was always, always for Polk Street. Arthur was a lifelong member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. It was there that Arthur’s deep-rooted faith was established and nurtured. And it was there that Arthur committed to loving and serving Jesus. Throughout his life, Arthur dedicated his time, his energy, and his resources to the church. He particularly loved teaching Sunday School, which he did for many years. It came as no surprise to Arthur’s family and friends, that Arthur would choose Polk Street columbarium for his final resting place.

Arthur will be deeply missed by so many, but most of all by his devoted children and his large extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even a great, great-grandchild.

Arthur excelled in the role of “Papa,” inundating his friends with stories of sports victories, career achievements, marriages, and new babies whenever he had a chance. Certainly, his beloved golf buddies and the men he shared daily coffee meetings with for years could attest to Arthur’s passion and love for his family.

Arthur is survived by his four children: Teri Cochran (and husband Steve) of Austin Texas, Kim Young (and husband Joe) of Allen, Texas, Jeff Lamb (and wife Kim) of Bartonville, Texas, and Slater Lamb of Amarillo, Texas; Grandchildren; Will Young and wife Alex of Houston, Texas; Claire Young of Allen, Texas; Kala Bailey and husband Luke of Coppell, Texas; Lauren Turner and husband Craig of Coppell, Texas; Ali Ohlinger and husband Nate of Coppell, Texas, Blakely Garner of Amarillo, Texas; great-grandchildren; Savannah Medina and husband Matthew of Gilbert AZ, Jack Young of Houston, Texas; Brooklyn Bailey, Elliott Bailey, Easton Turner, Reagan Turner all of Coppell, Texas, as well as a great, great grandson Alexander Medina, of Gilbert AZ.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Sean Collette.

His family would like to thank the staff at Legacy at Town Square and Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for the compassion and friendship they showed Arthur during his final years.

There will be a private interment at Polk Street Methodist Church columbarium for the family.
