Arci Cano Cataño

Arci Cano Cataño, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the age of 75. Arci was born on July 19, 1948, in San Juan, Texas, to Jesus and Socorro Cano of Hereford, Texas.

Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Friday, November 10, 2023, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 11, 2023 in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Jose Gomez celebrating.  Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

She graduated from Catholic Aspirancy Private School, St. Francis Aspirancy, in Amarillo, with the initial aspiration of becoming a nun. Although she later chose a different path, this experience profoundly enriched her Catholic faith throughout her life. Arci would often visit homes to spread the Word of God, and it was during one of these visits that she met her beloved husband, Israel Catano.

Arci and Israel Catano shared 53 years of joyous marriage and were blessed with three remarkable children. Arci’s lifelong goal was to draw closer to God and set a positive example for her children. Known for her vivacious and fun-loving personality, Arci was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and, above all, her love for family and friends.

For over 22 years, Arci dedicated herself to serving our great Veterans at the VA Hospital of Amarillo, where she formed many enduring friendships. She also served as a parishioner for over 30 years, a Guadelupana for over 8 years, and was a proud member of the Rosary Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Amarillo.

Arci is survived by her three “precious jewels” (children): Genaro Catano, 53, Monica Ortegon, 50, and Magdalena Jistel, 42; brothers Artemio, Alfredo, and Armando Cano; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and the love of her life, Israel Catano. She now reunites with her parents, Jesus and Socorro Cano, and brother, Alvaro in heaven.

Arci’s legacy lies in her generous heart and spirit, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of her family and friends. She will be greatly missed, and her memory will forever be cherished.
