Alvis Ray Wright Jr. was born October 31, 1954, in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of Mr. Alvis Wright Sr. and Frances Dee Simmons, who preceded him in death, as well as two brothers (Sean and Tracy). He was a long-time member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Amarillo where he served as Deacon.
Alvis was employed by the Pantex Plant for more than 29 years, where he met and made several friends. All that knew him knew of his gentle kind spirit. He was soft spoken, caring, and devoted to his family, church members, and friends. He was a hard worker and was always willing to help others. He opened and maintained two businesses. His hobbies were collecting sport memorabilia and antiques. His business A & W collectibles and antiques kept him busy for several years. He loved to travel to see what he could find and then find someone that would appreciate his finding.
He received his education in the Paducah School System where he excelled in all sports before receiving a track scholarship to West Texas State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree. While attending WTSU he continued to excel on the track, posting a time of 9.3 in the 100-yard dash. He was committed to all aspects of sports. He received many awards in high school and college for his accomplishments, which were numerous. He was a member of Leadership Amarillo, coached Kids Inc. sports (track and football for his son); he served on the Christmas Project committee for the Pantex plants for many years. He believed in giving back and was a regular contributor to the Food Bank, and Faith City Mission.
On October 9, 1978, he united in marriage with Sharon Porch while attending WTSU. Sharon was the love of his life; he stated numerous times that she made him the happiest man. To this union, two children were born, LaSeanda Michelle, and Marques Ray, both of Amarillo. Alvis was an equally loving and devoted grandfather to his four precious granddaughter, Raven Michelle (Amarillo), Leyla Ki-eta, (San Antonio) Kayla Ann, (Oklahoma (OSU), and Mya (Amarillo). He became a great grandfather to Kaia, whom he immediately adored even if she wasn't a boy!! He was a loving and devoted father to his children, and grandchildren.
Alvis leaves to cherish his loving memories: Wife, Sharon, brothers, Karl Wright (Amarillo) Eddie Wright (Childress), Tony Mathis (Paducah) sister, Teresa Wright (Paducah) children; Laseanda and Marques, granddaughters Raven, Leyla, Kayla and Mya and great-granddaughter Kaia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
