Alvis Duane “Wayne” Purcell, 87, of Dumas, died Sunday, April 15, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor J McGaughy, officiating. Burial will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.
Wayne, also known as PaPa, was born on July 14th, 1924 in Grey Mule, Texas to U.C. and Minnie Purcell. Wayne was the youngest of ten children who preceded him in death. Wayne loved the Lord and was a Deaco
n at the Bethel Assembly of God. He took great delight in sharing his faith in Jesus. Wayne worked on his family farm and later for Diamond Shamrock refinery for 35 years. He enjoyed painting anything that didn’t move and digging with his backhoe. He loved being on his tractor plowing and killing weeds
He is survived by Ann, his wife of 68 years, a daughter Donna Hayhurst and husband Jim of Dumas; two sons, Rick Purcell and wife Diane of Elko Nevada; Ron Purcell and wife Rose of San Antonio. He was blessed by having 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the funeral home.
