Alice was born on September 28, 1925, in Rhineland, Texas, to John and Mary Homer. She moved to Groom with her family when she was 2 years old. She graduated from Groom High School in 1943 . On August 23, 1949, she married the love of her life, Raymond Britten, in Groom. They recently celebrated 69 years together, a model of marriage & family life for all who knew them.
Alice was one of those special people that you just couldn’t help but love. She was kind and generous and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She was devout in her faith, a lifelong member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Groom. She was an avid word search puzzle fan and could always be found with one nearby. She enjoyed so many of life’s simple pleasures–helping on the farm, cooking and hosting large meals for her family, taking pictures and home movies, watching Mollie B’s Polka Party every Saturday night, laughing and playing with all of her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was well known for the very best fried chicken in all the land! Her favorite expressions “Awesome!”, “I’m still percolating!”, and “Well…that’s a deep subject!” will always be embedded in our hearts. Every one of us could list a thousand fond memories and she will be so dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings Carl, Paul, Clara, Francis and Mike Homer, Theresa Hermesmeyer, and Loretta Wickelman, a daughter-in-law, Linda Rae Anthony Britten and granddaughter, Bridgette Rene Britten.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband Ray; her five children, Donny & wife Glenda of San Juan Capistrano, CA; Tony & wife Wamyth of Groom; Hop & wife Jan of Groom; Kathy Stoerner & husband Wayne of Trophy Club, TX, and Sandi Schaefers & husband Gene of Mesquite, TX; 17 grandchildren, Eric Britten of Fountain Valley, CA, Jelene & Jim Ogden of Oak Park, IL, Brad Britten of San Juan Capistrano, CA, William Britten of Davis, CA, Karri & Jesse Wieners of Groom, Lorri & John Connelly of Groom, Sharri & Mitch Meyer of Hereford, Korri & Trenton Packard of Groom, Sara & Cody Hudson of Groom, Travis Britten of Sequim, WA, Katy & Josh Wesley of Waco, Brody & Rebecca Britten of Groom, Kalli & Philip Sterling of Trophy Club, Chad & Barbara Stoerner of Richardson, Jenny Schaefers of Carrollton, Jessica Schaefers of Weymouth, MA, and Allyson Schaefers of Houston; 16 great grandchildren with one more on the way, Kinzee, Eli, Ava & Josie Wieners, Addison & Jackson Connelly, Maddie & Benjamin Meyer, Todd Packard, Cade & Colby Linquist, Caydence Hudson, Liam Wesley, Alyssa & Trevor Sterling, Haddie Stoerner and many devoted nieces and nephews.
