Agueda “Agnes” Candelaria

Agueda “Agnes” Candelaria, 99, of Amarillo, returned to her heavenly home on July 1st, 2018. Her devotion to her family and firm faith in the Lord guided her thru a long and rich life.

Agueda was born to the late Juan and Juanita Romero, on July 28, 1918 in Puerto De Luna, New Mexico. She married Randolpho Candelaria, of Puerto De Luna, on April 14, 1943 in San Francisco, California. She was deeply involved in the Barrio community and helped her husband run the Candelaria Bakery for years. She would deliver extra sweets to the children of Our Lady of Guadalupe school. She was a lifelong Guadalupana and Padrina to many children from the Barrio. She was the family caregiver, including caring for her mother, sister Marcela, and son Felipe. Her favorite thing to do was play her beloved bingo.

Agueda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant daughters Patricia and Cecilia and three sons, Felipe, Robert, and Andy; and daughter in law Eva; two sisters, Marcelita Romero and Euphemia Ocana; and a brother, Alphonso Romero.

Agueda was blessed with a large and loving family and is survived by her sons Joe, Don and Susie Candelaria, and Pat; daughters Susie and Orasio Vela, Patsy and Rudy Cuellar, and Margaret Candelaria; 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

Rosary services will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.
