Adolfo Y. Villegas, 71, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 29, 2012.
Rosary will be said Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Adolfo was born February 12, 1941, in Sanderson to Wenselado and Gudelia Villegas. He also lived in Hereford before moving to Amarillo to work and raise his family.
Adolfo retired from his business, Adolfo and Sons Trucking, in 2011. Prior to that, he worked for DePauw Construction and Gilvin-Terrill Construction. He was known for a strong work ethic and when not working, he stayed busy taking care of his ranch.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He also loved spending time with his family, especially during holidays. Favorite pastimes included watching local car races with his friends, NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys.
Adolfo was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Valerie Villegas; a brother, Richard Villegas; and grandsons, David Huynh and Andrew Villegas.
Survivors include his children, Lisa Elgin and husband Larry, Rudy Villegas and wife Terry, Annette Flowers and husband Danny, Sandy Huynh, and Ben Villegas and wife Jackie, all of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and siblings Enrique Villegas and wife Teresa, Amelia Luna, Cruz Ybarra, Ben Villegas and wife Lupe, Willie Villegas and wife Mary, Adela Cantu and husband Emilio, Maria Mejia, and Esau Villegas and wife Rachel; and a special friend, Lucy Flores.
